Like many people going through a crisis, the online advertising industry has come to the desert. In the wake of privacy regulations taking effect and as the third-party cookie crumbles, advertisers, publishers and ad tech companies have been convened at the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Annual Leadership Meeting in Palm Springs, California. While prior gatherings have often been rah-rah affairs for members of online advertising industry to rally around, this year’s event has had more of a corrective tone. “We have a system that is out of alignment,” Hearst Magazines president and incoming IAB chairman Troy Young said Sunday, Feb. 9, in his welcome address.
