Local journalism has become more important than ever. Even before the coronavirus pandemic, researchers were seeking new ways of seeing the local news landscape amid constant disruption. The Center for Cooperative Media’s News Ecosystem Mapping Project, which maps local news in New Jersey, is a response to this desire to better understand.

O presidente da República, Jair Bolsonaro (sem partido), adiou, por meio de medida provisória, a vigência da Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados, a LGPD. A Lei nº 13.709, de 14 de agosto de 2018, entra em vigor em 3 de maio de 2021, daqui a um ano.

Sete em cada dez norte-americanos dizem que precisam dar uma pausa nas notícias sobre COVID-19

Após o rápido crescimento no interesse dos norte-americanos por informações sobre a pandemia de COVID-19, comportamento que elevou as taxas de audiências dos sites de notícias dos Estados Unidos na virada de fevereiro para março, os norte-americanos começam agora a revelar cansaço em relação ao tema. Nova pesquisa do Pew Research Center revela que cerca de sete em cada dez entrevistados (71%) dizem que precisam dar uma pausa nas notícias sobre a crise de saúde, enquanto 43% afirmam que as notícias os deixam se sentindo pior emocionalmente.

‘Get while the getting’s good’: Publishers look to cheap Facebook ads to increase subscriptions

Over the past seven weeks, many publishers have welcomed a coronavirus bump in subscribers as news consumption rises. That bump has been helped along by a significant acceleration in Facebook ad spending.
For example, subscriber growth across Condé Nast’s portfolio is up 100% from the start of March compared to the same period year over year. And 50% of the new subscriptions its titles have accumulated are coming from paid efforts, a spokesperson said.

Traditional journalism is under siege, NBC News chief Andy Lack wrote this week: President Trump continues to “put the bully in bully pulpit,” and the coronavirus crisis has taken a toll.
“But we’re winning,” proclaimed the headline of Lack’s piece published on NBCNews.com, which argues that news organizations, because they are still able to tell citizens the truth of what’s going on in the country, are victorious.
I wish I could agree.
