La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) expresó su profunda preocupación por el estado de fragilidad de los periódicos de Bolivia, que desde hace semanas, entre otras medidas por causa de la pandemia del COVID-19, solo publican en forma digital, cuando el 95% de su fuente de subsistencia descansa en la circulación de ediciones impresas y la venta de publicidad impresa.

As many local newspapers are scaling back or no longer publishing, some hyperlocal news and digital companies are making a profit. One of the more successful has been Patch. Patch was founded in 2007 and two years later AOL acquired the company. Under AOL, the company underwent financial difficulties, losing a reported $200 million to $300 million. BROADCASTERS, NEWSPAPERS PUSH FOR CHANGE TO SMALL BUSINESS LOAN RULES: The National Association of Broadcasters and the News Media Alliance are lobbying Congress to change the rules governing the small business loan programs to allow more TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and other media properties to apply. The trade groups want to revamp the Small Business Administration’s rules to let publishing and broadcasting companies with more than 500 employees — the typical cutoff for what’s considered a small business,although some industries have higher caps — apply for the loans, as long as each station or publication within a larger group doesn’t have more than a certain number of employees.
