Speaking at The Drum’s Digital Transformation Festival, Tracy De Groose, the executive chair at Newsworks, told The Drum that readership for online news was up by record-breaking numbers according to Pamco data. “On a daily basis, readership is up to 34 million, a 10% increase YoY,” she said.

Brazilian dailies on Monday urged unity and social responsibility to confront the COVID-19 pandemic that is spreading across Latin America. Newspapers banded together to deliver the same message on their front pages — “Together we will defeat the virus: United by information and responsibility,” as part of a civic-minded campaign launched by the National Newspaper Association (ANJ). “In dramatic situations like the one we are going through, accurate and contextualized information is an even more essential asset,” said Marcelo Rech, president of the ANJ.

Given the spread of COVID-19 in India, a lockdown is currently being observed in Mumbai with suspension of public transport facilities. The daily newspaper distribution chain has felt the impact of the cancellation of passenger trains and suspension of bus services, resulting in major newspapers including Times of India, Hindustan Times, Mid Day and The Hindu halting their circulation in the city for the time being. The e-edition of the national dailies shall however be available as usual.
