‘We’re figuring it out day by day’: Media faces extreme uncertainty in the wake of ad pullbacks

Media companies are hemorrhaging business as advertisers rapidly cut off spending because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The obvious categories, like travel, film and retail, are contracting so too are financial services and restaurants. Media companies are working to offset those revenue losses by turning to companies more likely to advertise right now, such as streaming services, food delivery and e-commerce companies. But, given how rapidly the global economy is cratering, the media companies are still trying to ascertain how much more revenue they may stand to lose.

A proliferação do coronavírus (SARS-CoV-2) já fez com que o Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica (Cade) adotasse cautelas para evitar exposição desnecessária de seus servidores e dos advogados e economistas que atuam na área de defesa da concorrência. Reuniões estão sendo transformadas em ligações telefônicas, e o Cade emitiu um comunicado[1] solicitando que as partes interessadas preferencialmente utilizem a internet para acompanhar as sessões de julgamento do seu tribunal. Nas próximas sessões de julgamento, o Tribunal do Cade deve não só reexaminar questões relativas a operações de fusões, aquisições e joint ventures entre grupos econômicos com faturamentos superiores a R$ 825 milhões, mas também decidir sobre a aplicação ou não de sanções contra empresas e indivíduos acusados de condutas anticompetitivas, com o fim último de proteger o bem-estar do consumidor.
